P E and Sport Premium

Implementing the “Sports Premium” in our School

The Government has given every Primary School funding to develop Physical education and competitive sport.

In our school we are using this funding by working with the Pennine Sports Partnership to:

  • Increase the amount of competition sport in which our children participate.
  • Make links to other community sports providers.
  • Develop additional clubs and activities for children, outside the curriculum.
  • Encourage our children to improve their leadership skills through sport.
  • Give extra support in PE to our most talented children and include those with special needs in sport.

Lastly, we are bringing PE and sports specialist teachers and coaches into work alongside class teachers in lessons.

In this way, our children will gain new skills and experiences and teachers will learn new techniques and knowledge to aid them in teaching sport and PE.

The long term aim is higher quality lessons and improved learning for all children , which has started to happen over the last few years due to the money.

The children have been orienteering at school with Mrs Barraclough, a coach with the local club; East Pennine Orienteering Club (EPOC). Children who have regularly attended the after school club have gained the National Navigation Award Scheme Young Navigator Bronze Star Award.

All families are welcome to EPOC's events. The next is at Ogden Water near Halifax on the evening of Saturday 23rd December (in the dark!) and morning of Sunday 24th December.  Please see www.eastpennineoc.org.uk for details

I am also running a navigation session in Greenhead Park on Wednesday 25th October 10-12. All welcome but you must book before the day so that I know how many to expect. Please contact me for further details. £3 per child for non-club members. Joining the club costs £2!

If you would like to find out more about orienteering please see www.britishorienteering.org Alternatively please contact me. I can also provide events/navigational training for groups or individuals
