From Year 1 through to Year 6, writing is taught through a progressive build-up of skills and knowledge and opportunity to practise and consolidate previous learning. Children are engaged in the writing process by immersing them in quality stimuli, reading in depth, oral rehearsal and drama based activities.

Spelling and Handwriting are taught both explicitly and in context as an embedded skill.

At Nields we strive to ensure that children become confident readers by systematicallyt teaching them a range of strategies that will enable them to read fluently and with good understanding. In becoming confident readers, children will be able to access information to support their development in all curriculum areas and develop an enjoyment of reading that will enrich their lives.
